The Art of Making Your Dreams Come True
Workbook and Tapes

Obstacles (or Mind Mud)

So you’ve dreamed big, reached for the stars, defined specific dreams you would love to accomplish, are fired up and ready to rock and roll.

Then ... stuff ... happens. Sometimes a big bang that throws you entirely off balance, and sometimes little niggly things that insidiously chip away at your enthusiasm, your perseverance and worst of all, your belief in yourself that you can make this dream come true. Things like: procrastination, self sabotage, depression, vulnerability, fear of commitment, decoys etc.

When we pour all our energy into a specific direction, what very often happens is that it tends to bring up all the opposition that you could imagine. It is as though there is a part of you that dearly wants this dream and a part of you that is very afraid of letting go of the way things are in order to have this dream. I call this the mud bucket theory. This opposition can seem very powerful and very draining. Take a look at some of the obstacles that can arise when you begin a new path of passionately following your dreams.

The Vulnerability Obstacle:
The Self Sabotage Obstacle:
The Procrastination Obstacle:
The Commitment Obstacle:
The Void Obstacle:
The Decoy Obstacle:

The Vulnerability Obstacle:

Shield02How often do we create an armor of protection around us that stops us from venturing out into the world with our dream. This dream, like the damp wings of a newly emerged butterfly, feels too fragile, too precious, too vulnerable to be exposed to the ruthlessness of a harsh and uncaring world. It is this fear of what the world will say, or how it will treat us, that causes many dreams to lie forgotten in the dusty attics of our minds.

To find the courage to take our dreams out into this seemingly hostile world, takes an inward journey of connection with the Eternal Spirit that we are. This connection brings inspiration and remembrance of our magnificence and our dharma; our true Life Path or Purpose.
Chapter IV: Protection for the Potential of Your Dream in DreamQuest - How to Create Your Heart’s Desire

The Self Sabotage Obstacle:

LThermom02ike the regulating thermostat in a house, we have inbuilt tolerance levels above which we will not let ourselves rise, (so we sabotage ourselves to bring ourselves down to a comfortable level), and below which we will not let ourselves fall. While these levels are largely unconscious, they are learned and we can rise above them. We must first learn to feel safe enough inside before we will move beyond our limits.
Chapter V: Tolerance Levels of Success and Happiness in DreamQuest - How to Create Your Heart’s Desire

The Procrastination Obstacle:

CStop02ommonly called the thief of time, procrastination is also the thief of our dreams, and our confidence to make those dreams come true. What if, instead, there was a small child inside, who, wisely or otherwise, thinks she is protecting us from hurt by causing us to procrastinate?

What if the fear of this child is so great, that it simply cannot allow us to move forward until the fear is addressed and dissipated? This means taking your courage in both hands and finally facing, head on, the demons that have been holding you captive for so long. You CAN do it.
Chapter VI: Procrastination and Attention in DreamQuest - How to Create Your Heart’s Desire

The Commitment Obstacle:

Yes02Saying YES! to a dream, is not saying YES! forever. As in a relationship, we need to commit to our dreams; we need to outline the terms under which we are willing to live, and those under which we are not willing to live. When we finally leave a toxic relationship or job behind, and have truly learned from it, we know that there isno going back. This is commitment to a new aspect of ourselves. Experience teaches us. And the time will come when the dreams of our hearts refuse to lie down and die. This is the time of commitment.
Chapter VII: Commitment in DreamQuest - How to Create Your Heart’s Desire

The Void Obstacle:

Void02The Void: That deep, dark, bottomless pit of despair from which it feels as if we will bener rise again. Probably most people experience some form of depression at some time in their lives. The worst kind of depression can be when you know you are here of this planet for a purpose, yet somehow you are unable to live that purpose. Again, the most simple yet maybe the most difficult way our of this slippery place of hell, is through deep surrender to the Infinite Intelligence Within. In time, this Infinite Intelligence will heal and restore in ways the mind can neither understand nor imagine.
Chapter VIII: The Void in DreamQuest - How to Create Your Heart’s Desire

The Decoy Obstacle:

Duck_02Then there are the decoys, so cunningly woven into our lives that we are off track before we even realize what has happened. Taking many disguises, they are a form of procrastination, serving to distract us from our original purpose. Like the fudge sundae when we are dieting, or the on-sale item when we are becoming solvent. To say no is to gain a tremendous sense of mastery and confidence in moving towards our dreams.
Chapter VIII: Decoys in DreamQuest - How to Create Your Heart’s Desire

Vulnerability, Self Sabotage, Procrastination, Commitment, The Void and Decoy Obstacles are explored IN DEPTH in the Workbook, The Art of Making Dreams Come True and two audio tapes. “Life is not a situation, but a process: not static, but dynamic. It’s essential element is change, and the great question facing each of us is whether we will channel that change in the directions we want to go, shaping our destiny, or whether we will permit our activities and our character to be determined by those random forces we call fate. To the extent that we procrastinate, we are following the second course.”
